Who are “Bridgespeed”?
Bridgespeed is a division of CBR Networks Ltd that focuses solely on Internet Services and specialises in rural broadband. CBR Networks was formed in 2008 to deliver the whole range of computer networking services, primarily to other businesses. Although Internet Services had always been an important part of its work, in early 2010, and after significant growth we realised that it needed to become its own brand.
So why the name “Bridgespeed”?
Its simple really. A “bridge” connects one piece of land to another. We solved the rural broadband problem by taking fast internet from one place and delivering it to another. “Speed” goes without saying. In the current times, we believe everyone should have access to fast broadband.
So why did we get into rural broadband?
The director of CBR Networks and his family originated from a rural background, and it was evident in 2008 that the big ISPs and TELCOs were not planning to solve the rural broadband problem anytime soon. With a background in military communications we knew we could put secure communications into some of the harshest and most austere locations on earth. We knew there was a solution. We set about designing some solutions on paper and carried out some early trials to prove the concept.
Then, in May 2009, we were asked if we could provide a fast internet connection into a rural hotel for a major IT conference. We were only given 4 weeks notice but, after much hard-work, we successfully delivered. Based on that experience, we then set about installing our first permanent network in Wiltshire.
We declared the system operational in December 2009 and have not looked back since!
